Hosting Help Guide

We're Here To Help

We are always in close contact with out clients, and we are here to meet your needs. Not everyone has the time or technical ability to use all the features our hosting services provide, this does not mean you go without. If you wish you may give us access to your control panel, and when you require features such as new email addresses or creating new sub-domains we will be here to either help or do these actions for you.

Accessing Web Control Panel (cPanel)

Your web control panel can be accessed by entering an address into you web browser www.yourdomain.com/cpanel. Enter the username and password provided when you signed up. The full user manual for cPanel in Acrobat PDF format can be found here.

Update Your Contact Information

When you first login to Cpanel using the address www.yourdomain.com/cpanel, ensure to update your contact information. This is important as when your account reaches 80% of the usage limit an email will be sent to this address, allowing you time to upgrade your account before access is disabled. After the current month is up, accounts that have reached there bandwidth limit and have decided not to upgrade there account are returned to normal use.

At the top of the screen you will see Please update your contact information here. Select the link, then enter your email address and select Save Email. Once your email has been entered select the Home button at the top of the screen to return to the main menu.

Uploading Documents and Files

Documents and files can be uploaded from cPanel by selecting the File Manager button.

An FTP program or Dreamweaver can upload files by using ftp://yourdomain.com with the same username and password used for Cpanel. Additional ftp users can also be created using the control panel with access to areas you specify within your site, such as sub-domains.

Using Frontpage

If you wish to use Frontpage you are required to install Frontpage Extensions from Cpanel, or request do this for you.

Open the control panel and select Frontpage Extensions, then select Install Frontpage Extensions.

In Frontpage open a web directory and select Publish, enter http://yourdomain.com. Frontpage will connect to your server and publish your documents.

Please use Frontpage to upload and edit your site. To avoid corrupting your Frontpage extensions do not use a combination of FTP or other design programs. Do not use your file manager within your control panel to edit files. If you plan on using password protected pages use the pass protect feature within Frontpage and not the pass protect feature within your control panel. You will get errors and possible corrupt your Frontpage extensions.

If Frontpage extensions become corrupted uninstall and reinstall Frontpage Extensions from Cpanel.

Outlook and Webmail

Access to your email can be either from a web page or an email program like Microsoft Outlook. A default email account will be available using the format cpanelusername@yourdomain.com. This account is your main account and can not be deleted.

To create a new email account select Mail in Cpanel, select Add/Remove Accounts, then select Add Account at the bottom of the screen. Enter a name and password and set the Quota or delete if not required, a quota limits the amount of space the specified account may use.

To set-up up Outlook automatically select Outlook AutoConfig beside the corresponding email account, make sure Outlook is closed when performing this action. When you open Outlook the email account will be added and a prompt for your username and password will appear, you can select the Remember Password box to skip this action in the future.

Outlook can be configured manually by creating a new email account and entering mail.yourdomain.com for both SMTP and POP3 settings, enter your name, email address, username (full email address) and password.

To access webmail you can select Webmail from the control panel or in your browser go to www.yourdomain.com/webmail. You have a choice of 2 different webmail programs, Horde & Squirrelmail. Each program has benefits over the other and the one you choose will depend on which is best suited to your requirements.

Back-ups

We do daily system backs to a second harddrive, and offsite backups monthly. This is used strictly for server restoration in the event of Primary Hard drive failure and is not intended for restoration of individual accounts.

Ensure to use the Home Directory backup in Cpanel, to download a copy of your account.

System Paths

Paths to systems resources:

Sendmail: /usr/sbin/sendmail
Perl: /usr/local/bin/perl or /usr/bin/perl
some scripts prefer one over the other.
Date: /bin/date
Whois: /usr/bin/whois
GnuPG: /usr/bin/gpg
Imagemagick: /usr/local/bin

Web directory: /home/username/www
or /home/username/public_html
Cgi-bin: /home/username/www/cgi-bin

Replace username with the Cpanel username for the account the script is under. The previous 3 paths may be asked for in the script as an absolute path or a system path. Please note that the paths only go as far as the directories above and you may need to add on to them for the specific file or directory your script is calling for.

Banned Scripts

The following scripts are banned from our servers:

Any script that uses & processes a massive number of flat files or large flat databases are disallowed, please use MySql databases instead.

If we find banned scripts active in your account, we will disable or remove the offending script and send you an email notifying you of our actions.

If you have questions about a script you want to install or have installed, open a help desk ticket in the members area or send an email to with the details and we will look into it. The reason for having banned scripts is to protect your security and maintain high performance servers.
